Palo Alto: Implementation Of 5G Needs Special Attention To Data Security Steps

JAKARTA - Indonesia is starting to enter a new chapter of information technology. The presence of new technologies such as 5G, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and big data, makes network information security limits continue to weaken.

As a result, security protection content continues to increase, so this new technology can pose a major challenge to data and information security around the world, including in Indonesia.

"Indeed, most businesses in Indonesia claim to be working on a 5G (88%) strategy, but they are worried about 5G data security and application layers," Adi Rusli, Country Manager of Indonesia, Palo Alto Networks, told VOI in a written statement.

According to Adi, the successful implementation of 5G in Indonesia requires careful attention to the security and data protection measures themselves.

"Organizations and regulatory agencies must establish a comprehensive strategy for data protection, access management, and encryption to reduce potential risks," he added.

Currently, Adi sees that the majority of telecommunication operators still do not show an urgency towards the application of 5G technology. This is likely to happen considering the low adoption of 5G in Indonesia.

"International Data Corporation (IDC) found that the 4G mobile market share in Indonesia increased in the second quarter of 2023, from 82 percent in the first quarter to 86 percent. The low adoption of 5G, according to IDC, also made telecommunication operators careful to invest in this technology, partly due to costs and profitability," he explained further.

Adi also mentioned that the main challenge of adopting 5G technology is the difficulty of controlling information, because information transmission is getting faster.

For this reason, more and more people get internet access, prioritizing cybersecurity measures is very important, especially in investing in personal data security and protecting against cyber threats that continue to grow.

According to him, education plays a very important role in raising awareness about cyber threats and promoting safe online behavior.

"A strong cybersecurity framework, including strong encryption protocols, user education about online security, and enriched network defense, is very important to mitigate potential risks, so as to accelerate digital infrastructure in this country," he concluded.
