Kaspersky Detects 7 Million Online Threats In Indonesia In Q2 2023

JAKARTA - Cyber threats that target individual levels to critical sectors continue to receive attention around the world. Including in Indonesia, data leak cases often occur.

With the rise of data leaks and cyber incidents in the country, Kaspersky released the latest cyber threat statistics for Indonesia in the second quarter of this year.

The data shows a decrease of up to 30 percent over cyberattack efforts on Indonesian internet users from April to June 2023, compared to the same period last year.

Based on this data, online threats in Indonesia in Q2 this year amounted to 7,729,320 detections, down far from the number of 11,083,474 detections in the same period last year.

However, this number also increased slightly (1 percent) compared to the January to March (Q1) period this year with 7,651,841 online threat detections.

Overall, 21.7 percent of users have been targeted by online threats during the Q2 2023 period. This also places Indonesia ranked 96th in the world in terms of the dangers associated with web exploration.

On the other hand, the number of local threats has also decreased, although not as many as online threats, with 13,015,667 detections, from the previous 13,533,656 detections.

"Although our statistics suggest that in general there has been a decline in online and local domestic threats, the number of detections is still relatively high," Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia in Kaspersky said in a statement.

Therefore, the cybersecurity company urged all users to act in building cybersecurity defenses in line with the large amount of their personal data and assets involved in all digital activities.
