Indonesia Becomes The Country With The Lowest Internet Download Speed In Southeast Asia

JAKARTA - The 2023 East Ventures - Digital Competitive Index (EV-DCI) report revealed that the number of internet users in Indonesia in 2022 will reach 204.7 million users.

However, in terms of internet speed, Indonesia is still far behind compared to countries in ASEAN. According to data from Ookla, Speedtest Global Index (2022), as of December 2022, Indonesia is the country with the lowest mobile phone internet download speed in the ASEAN region, which is only 26.6 Mbps.

Two countries above Indonesia, namely in the ninth and eighth positions, there are Cambodian and Myanmar countries with internet download speeds of 31.3 and 34.4 Mbps, respectively.

Then followed by Laos (39.6 Mbps) in seventh position, Vietnam (55.9 Mbps) in sixth position, the Philippines (59.4 Mbps) in fifth position, and also Thailand in fourth position with a download speed of 79.5 Mbps.

Meanwhile, in the top three positions, Malaysia (3), Brunei Darussalam (2), and Singapore (1), with each internet download speed of 116 Mbos, 120.5 Mbos, and also 163 Mbps.

In Indonesia alone, Speedtest Global Index revealed that Telkomsel is the fastest cellular operator in Indonesia with an average internet download speed of 20.85 Mbps.

Then followed by XL 19.18 and IM3 Ooredoo which are in second and third positions as operators with the fastest internet download speeds in Indonesia, reaching 19.18 Mbps and 12.77 Mbps, respectively.

Furthermore, there is Smartfren which occupies the fourth position with 11.79 Mbps and followed by operator 3 (Tri) with an average internet download speed of 10.90 Mbps.
