After Many Big Game Companies Canceled, E3 2023 Officially Canceled

JAKARTA - The Entertainment Software Association and ReedPop organizers have confirmed that this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event has been canceled.

Announced in June last year the E3 was supposed to be held from June 13 to June 16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center and will be the first face-to-face E3 event since 2019.

In 2020, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and although a digital version was held in 2021, the event was canceled again in 2022 in an effort to focus on showing revitalized ones that will set new standards for hybrid.

This news comes as several big names in the gaming industry, such as Xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation, and Ubisoft have officially said they will not attend E3 2023.

Two sources confirming to IGN said the organization announced the cancellation of E3 via email sent to its members.

The email says that although E3 "stays a loved event and brand" but the 2023 version "does not get the ongoing interest it needs to carry out in a way that will show our industrial size, strength, and impact."

Following IGN's report, ESA issued the following public statement from Kyle Marsden-Kish, VP Global Gaming, ReedPop:

"This is a difficult decision because of all the efforts we and our partners made to make this event happen, but we have to do what's right for the industry and what's right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies will not set up a demo that can be played and that the resource challenge of making being in E3 this summer is an obstacle they cannot overcome. For those who are truly committed to E3 2023, we apologize for not being able to present the work you deserve and that you expect from ReedPop's show experience. "
