5,000 Grab Electric Vehicle Fleets Ready To Operate In Indonesia

JAKARTA - President of Grab Indonesia Ridzki Kramadibrata said that he is ready to operate more than 5,000 electric vehicles in Indonesia. This is a form of Grab's support in implementing Presidential Regulation No.5 of 2019 concerning electric-based vehicles (KBL).

"Grab also supports the government's vision of reducing carbon emissions by 29 percent by 2030, through this initiative, we have currently launched and operated more than 5,000 electric-based vehicles," Ridzki said at the 75th National Electricity Day commemoration event. virtual, Tuesday, November 3.

In terms of operating costs, according to Ridzki, the use of electric vehicles is considered to be more efficient than the use of fossil fuel vehicles. Savings in fuel use up to 30 percent compared to fossil vehicles.

Even so, Ridzki admits that the relatively high purchase price is one of the issues in using electric-based vehicles. Grab Indonesia also collaborates with a number of vehicle manufacturers, including Kymco, Selis to provide more affordable service operations.

"Why is there innovation here, first, the pattern is the rental pattern, so it is quite affordable. Second, with the delivery pattern of goods and food, the productivity is very high, so it is suitable for this kind of business model," said Ridzki.

Currently Grab Indonesia will work with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment and the Ministry of Finance to help grow the electric vehicle ecosystem. Especially the corporate tax incentive pattern if the non-fuel vehicle ecosystem continues to grow.

ESDM Operates 10 Thousand SPBKLU

On the other hand, the government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has inaugurated a number of charging stations for electric motors or Public Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Stations (SPBKLU). Some of them are located in South Jakarta, Tangerang City and South Tangerang.

"It is hoped that this SPBKLU can be one of the solutions to accelerate the formation of a battery-based electric motorized vehicle ecosystem. Through SPBKLU, recharging the battery is done more quickly because the technology can currently be utilized," said Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif.

Through SPBKLU, the driver can exchange the old battery with a battery that is already charged from the storage rack, and only takes about 3 minutes to exchange.

In accordance with the roadmap, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2025 targets the availability of 10,000 SPBKLU units which will be built in stages. Later the SPKLU units will be placed in places that are easily accessible to the community, such as shopping centers, office areas, airports, apartments and taxi pools or others.

"We continue to encourage the use of electric vehicles. Let us drive electric vehicles in the future, so that we can create cleaner and more energy efficient air," said Minister Arifin.
