JAKARTA - The West Bank-based Palestinian national team reportedly had difficulty finding the stadium as a home base in the 2026 World Cup Qualification round. This follows a Hamas military conflict with Israel.
Seeing this situation, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has stated that it is ready to be the home for the Palestinian national team. As a first step, Algeria will provide a stadium for Palestine to host Australia, 24 November 2023.
Palestine are joined by Australia, Lebanon and Bangladesh in Group I in the second round of the 2026 Asian Zone Dianka Cup Qualifiers. Palestine is scheduled to play away matches to Lebanese headquarters in the opening party mid-November.
After that Palestine will get a share of the host when they host Australia in the second match. However, the condition of the country, which is heating up, makes it impossible.
The Palestinian Football Federation has finally asked FAF for help to become a homebase for the Palestinian national team in the Group I preliminary match. This request was granted by FAF.
Not only when Palestine is scheduled to host Australia, Algeria is also willing to host every official and unofficial match of the Palestinian national team. This was done in preparation for the preliminary Group I of the 2006 World Cup Qualification and the 2027 Asian Cup Qualification round.
"FAF in a guide by local authorities has granted the request of the President of the Palestinian Football Federation, Jibril Rajoub. Algeria will host all matches, whether official or unofficial, the Palestinian national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers," wrote the FAF statement, Thursday, October 19.
The Algerian Government's support for the Palestinian national team turned out not only to provide a home base, but they will also cover all the transportation costs, lodging, and accommodation of the Palestinian national team players and coaching staff during matches in Algeria.
However, Algeria's willingness to host every Palestinian national team match still has to wait for approval from the International Football Federation (FIFA).
