United States Ambitious To Win The FIFA U-17 World Cup In Indonesia

JAKARTA US national team coach U-17 Gonzalo Segares has ambitions to bring home the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup which will take place in Indonesia.

Indonesia's U-17 World Cup 2023 will take place from November 10 to December 2 nearest. The United States will start the struggle from Group E with France, South Korea, and Burkina Faso.

"We want to compete and we want to win," said Segares when asked to outline American ambitions at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Indonesia, as quoted from the FIFA website.

Segares is confident because of the courage, depth of quality, and strong team culture in his squad. This was already seen when they participated in the U-17 Concaf Championship last February.

At the event, Segares' team managed to reach the final round. However, unfortunately they later lost against their neighbor Mexico.

"It was a big challenge for us, and the team did really well. It was great for the kids to feel that kind of atmosphere at such a young age," he said.

The success in Concaf U-17 made Segares even more confident that the team could again become a challenge for the title in Indonesia. Moreover, this is the first U-17 World Cup for the coach.

Segares missed a chance to compete in the tournament as a player when Costa Rica failed to qualify for the 1999 edition of New Zealand.

"I took more than 20 years to experience the U-17 World Cup. Since then, I've always thought about that, but I never knew I would have the opportunity as a coach," he said.
