Surprise! Carlos Alcaraz Falls In Toronto Masters ATP Quarter-Finals, Record 14 Concrete Wins Stopped

JAKARTA - The surprise occurred in the quarter-finals of the 2023 ATP Toronto Masters, Saturday, August 12, morning WIB. World number one Carlos Alcaraz was eliminated.

Alcaraz fell in the hands of American Tommy Paul with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. This defeat ended 14 consecutive Spanish wins

In this match, Alcaraz was unable to escape the poor performance that hit him throughout the week. This is a danger signal ahead of his efforts to defend the US Open title which will start in two weeks.

"I realized I didn't play well in all these games. All I can do now is train to be better," Alcaraz said, as broadcast by AFP quoted via Antara.

The 20-year-old tackled himself and condemned his game during a game that lasted more than two and a quarter hours.

"I had a few weeks before the US Open. But now I have to focus (starting Monday) in Cincinnati. This is Masters 1000. It's also a big tournament. I take a lot of lessons from this tournament," said Alcaraz.

Paul, ranked 14th, will face the semi-final against sixth seed Jannik Sinner, who beat French tennis player Gael Monfils 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

"It's never easy against my heart. I'm just trying to stick to my game plans. I'm going through the best season, I'm happy to be in the semifinals. I hope to raise my level tomorrow," said Sinner.

Meanwhile, Paul is trying to figure out how he got through Alcaraz.

"I don't know if I think I have the recipe, but I played a really good game today," Paul said.

"I'm chasing a punch. You can't start any points with your heels against him, he's going to take advantage of it so you really have to chase your shot at the start of the rally. Luckily I feel very good, playing tennis the first blow," Paul added.

Alcaraz struggled after almost being caught in the previous match against Hubert Hurkacz.

The reigning champions Wimbledon and the US Open have recorded 27 winners and 30 unforced errors, while Paul with 19 winners and 29 unforced errors.

After losing service three times in the opening set, Alcaraz came back to win the second set. However, he was 4-2 behind in the last set.

Paul took advantage of quickly, advancing on his second match point from Alcaraz's wide pass.
