Japan Open 2023: Dejan / Gloria Qualified, Indonesia Has Eight Representatives In Quarter Finals

JAKARTA The mixed doubles Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja qualified for the second round of the Japan Open 2023. They stopped the representative hosts Kyohei Yamashita/Naru Shinoya.

Dejan/Gloria won easily in two straight games 21-81 and 21-17 at Yoyogi Gymnasium, Wednesday night 26 July 2023. They are one of five couples who qualified for the round of 16 today.

In the second round, Dejan/Gloria will clash with the second seed from Thailand Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai. The pair stopped Danish representatives, Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Boje.

Apart from Dejan/Gloria, tickets for the second half were also secured by world number one Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Jonatan Christie, Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi, and Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.

Meanwhile, four other representatives have to go home today. One of them is Leo Rolly Carnando / Daniel Marthin who lost against third-seeded India Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chicago Shetty.

Men's doubles Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Rambitan also lost. They lost to representatives of China as well as second seed Liang Wei Sidang/Wang Chang.

Then the second-seeded men's singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting also suffered the same fate. The badminton player from West Java lifted the suitcase after being made to surrender by the vice host Kanta Tsuneyama in two straight games.

Meanwhile, mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari returned home after losing two straight games against the sixth seeded South Korean pair, Seo Seung Jae/Chae Yu Jung.
