JAKARTA - Liverpool officially proposed to Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. He became the Reds' second signing on the transfer market this summer after Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Szoboszlai was announced by Liverpool on Sunday, July 2. The player contracted five years until 2028.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp welcomed Szoboszlai. He believes the 2000-born player is delighted to be joining the club based at Anfield Stadium.

"It is important for him to understand that we are all equally excited to have him," Klopp said, quoted from the club's official website.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach admitted that he had pocketed a lot of the ability of the Hungarian national team player when he was still the opponent for his team. At that time, Szoboszlai, who was still defending RB Salzburg, was made immobile after losing twice to the 2019/2020 Champions League group stage.

The German manager also admitted that since then he has been captivated by the talent of the 22-year-old player who later had a brilliant career with Leipzig and the Hungarian national team.

"We already had a little knowledge about Dominik as an opponent because we had some very difficult games against Red Bull Salzburg when he was a player there and I think everyone who saw the game would realize that even at that stage he was a very interesting player," Klopp said., as quoted via Antara.

While still joining Die Bullen, the nickname RB Leipzig, Szoboszlai has appeared 91 times in all competitions by scoring 20 goals and 22 assists and winning two trophies, namely DFB-Pokal for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons.

At the international level, the footballer who was born on October 25, 2000, already has 32 caps for the Hungarian national team by scoring seven goals and two assists.

"I'm pretty sure he was a teenager at the time and since then he's made some big moves to Leipzig, performed very well in the Bundesliga, played for the Hungarian national team and later captained his national team at a very young age," Klopp said.

Szoboszlai is definitely the answer to the rejuvenation of the midfield line of the club based at Anfield after being left behind by James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The player who plays as an attacking midfielder chose the number 8 shirt with the Reds. The iconic jersey number was worn by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as well as the jersey number previously worn by Keita, who has now moved to Werder Bremen.
