Hyundai Talks About Opportunities for Genesis to Enter Indonesia

JAKARTA - Like several other automotive companies, Hyundai has its own luxury brand known as Genesis. The brand has been around since 2015 and has launched several premium models to global acclaim, including the GV90, G70, G80, GV70, and GV80.

Even though Genesis is still a new player in the premium vehicle industry, the difference with Toyota, which markets Lexus in Indonesia, is that Hyundai has not yet introduced Genesis to the Indonesian market. Even so, several vehicles from Genesis have been seen on the streets of Jakarta.

Recently, the Genesis G80 with an eye-catching graphic design has graced the streets of the capital. These mid-sized sedans were introduced as "Art Cars" during the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, as part of South Korea's promotion as host of the 2030 World Expo which will be held in Busan.

Other premium vehicles, such as the GV80, owned by the South Korean Embassy, are also often seen on the streets of Jakarta. The Minister of BUMN, Erick Thohir, even uses the G80 Electrified model as his daily official vehicle.

Furthermore, the Genesis G80 Electrified was even used by several delegates from foreign countries when they carried out their duties at the G20 Summit in Bali at the end of 2022.

Uria Simanjuntak, Head of the Public Relations Division of PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID), revealed that opportunities for Genesis sales in Indonesia are quite open, but there needs to be further communication with the principals to take official steps in introducing other vehicle models to Indonesia.

"Therefore, we need to communicate further with our global principals, while waiting for official directions regarding the presence of other models in Indonesia," said Uria when contacted by VOI on Tuesday, September 26.
