GM President Is Optimistic That Starting 2025 Electric Vehicles Will Be Big Profits

JAKARTA - General Motors (GM) is one of the leading car manufacturers in the world that is transforming towards electric vehicles (EV).

General Motors is optimistic that its investment in electric vehicles and the Ultium platform will lead it to a more sustainable and financially profitable future. With this innovation, GM hopes to play an important role in the transformation of the automotive industry in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable direction.

While speaking at the Automotive News Congress congress in Detroit, Michigan, USA, Tuesday, September 12, GM President Mark Reuss said the company is committed to making profitable electric vehicles, and the target is to achieve profits starting in 2025. One of the keys to GM's success in achieving this goal is the use of the Ultium platform which is the basis of all electric vehicles.

Reuss also revealed that GM has produced 50,000 electric vehicles in North America in the first half of this year and has ambitions to build another 100,000 in the second half of this year.

"Over time, you will see a profitable electric vehicle, and this can be achieved by designing a vehicle architecture from scratch for batteries, not by repolating vehicles that were previously designed for internal combustion engines. Reuss also emphasized that the GM's decision to focus on the development and production of electric vehicles and their platforms in North America was not influenced by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) proposed by President Joe Biden. According to him, GM has decided to use the Ultium platform as the basis for all electric vehicles four years ago, and this is an important step towards the benefits they are now achieving.

"Four years ago, when we made a decision about our portfolio and factories, there was no IRA yet. So, our mission is that we will make a profit, we will do it on a scale, we will build a cell factory and partnership," he added.

Selain platform Ultium, GM juga telah mengamankan perjanjian penting dalam hal penyediaan baterai dengan LG Energy Solution dan Samsung SDI.
