Hyundai And Kia Recall 91,000 New Vehicles In The US, Owners Are Recommended To Park Outside Due To Burn Risks

Hyundai and Kia announced on Thursday, August 4, that they will recall more than 91,000 new vehicles in the United States due to fire risks, and encourage vehicle owners to park their vehicles outdoors and stay away from the building structure pending repairs.

The recall was quoted from Reuters, August 4, including Hyundai Palisade 2023-2024 vehicles, kiosk 2023, Sonata, Elantra, and Kona, as well as Kia Seltos 2023-2024 and Kia Soul 2023 and Sportage vehicles.

About 52,000 Hyundai vehicles and nearly 40,000 Kia vehicles are covered in this recall. The two Korean automotive companies revealed that electronic controls for the assembly of oil pumps Idle Stop & Go may contain damaged electric components that could cause the pump to overheat. Owners will be notified by the end of September and the entire dealers will check and replace the controllers of the electric oil pumps as needed.

Kia said they received six reports of thermal incidents potentially related to this, but no accidents or injuries were reported, while Hyundai received four similar reports. The two automotive companies informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the suspected share had been removed from production in March.

Hyundai has notified dealers that replacement vehicles must be provided for customers who feel insecure operating their vehicles until repair of the recall is available. Hyundai also said that if owners report a burning or melting odor, they should immediately contact the nearest Hyundai dealers and not try driving the vehicle.

In addition to the risk of a fire, heat damage can also cause a short circuit that affects other vehicle controllers, Hyundai explained.

It is known, in December 2022, Hyundai also received reports of heat damage to the power/connector cable of the electric oil pump on the Hyundai Palisade 2023 vehicle, prompting the company to open an investigation. Kia said that in June, they received reports of component melting on the Soul 2023 vehicle.
