Immigration: Harun Masiku Prevention Ends January 13, 2021

JAKARTA - Acting Director General of Immigration, Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, Saffar M. Godam said the prevention of traveling abroad against corruption suspect Harun Masiku had ended since January 13, 2021.

"Lastly, it ends on January 13, 2021," said Godam as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 17.

Godam explained that Harun Masiku was not currently prevented because the request for prevention submitted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had ended three years ago. Immigration has also communicated with the KPK regarding the continuation of the prevention.

"The last communication is based on a letter from us questioning the status of Harun Masiku again with a letter on December 11, 2024," he added.

By not yet submitting a request for prevention, Harun Masiku can freely travel abroad. However, Godam said, Harun Masiku was not recorded to have traveled anywhere based on immigration crossing data.

Although there was no extension of the request for prevention of Harun Masiku, Godam emphasized that Immigration would continue to monitor the journey concerned.

"We are monitoring, yes, we will continue to monitor and coordinate if there is such information. However, this authority is the authority of the applicant agency that handles the case," he said.

[/see_alsoGodam explained that prevention was carried out on the basis of a request from the authorities.

He gave an example, the prevention of corruption suspects was applied by the KPK, the case of state receivables debt from the Ministry of Finance, and other criminal suspects submitted by the police.

"So, if there is no further application, it is in accordance with the provisions, the penalty is finished by law, ending by law," said Godam.

Harun Masiku was named by the KPK as a suspect in the case of alleged gift giving or promises to state officials related to the appointment of candidates for members of the DPR RI elected for the 2019-2024 period at the KPU.

However, Harun Masiku has always been absent from the summons of KPK investigators to be included in the wanted list (DPO) since January 17, 2020.

The KPK also published Harun Masiku's latest wanted list (DPO) showing photos of the latest fugitive corruption case.

The latest DPO features four new photos of Harun with the characteristics of a height of about 172 cm with special characteristics looking in the eye, thinness, loud sound with a Toraja or Bugis accent.
