Timika SAR: KM Bayu Sentosa 3 Burns In Amar Waters

TIMIKA - Timika Search and Rescue Office (SAR) in Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province, said that KM Ayu Sentosa 3 caught fire in Amar waters in this area.

The daily executive of the Head of the Timika SAR Office, Charles Y Batlajery, in a release to ANTARA in Timika, Sunday, said they received information from a KM Bayu Sentosa 4 agent on behalf of Rizal that KM Bayu Sentosa 3 had a fire incident.

"We received a report via cell phone by Mr. Rizal, who said that KM Budi Sentosa 3 had a fire, precisely at 04.00 WIT, on Sunday 4/2/2024," he said.

According to Batlajery, KM Bayu Sentosa 3 loaded with 13 passengers caught fire after being struck by lightning while looking for fish around Amar waters, Timika. "It is known that 12 people managed to survive after being helped by KM Bahtera Nuh who was around the scene and evacuated to Dobo," he said.

He explained that the captain of the ship, named Tjeng Neng alias Cham Thao, aged 48 years, is currently still in the process of being searched by the SAR team.

"Of the 13 passengers on KM Budi Sentosa 3, who managed to survive and received assistance as many as 12 people and another person who is the Captain of the Ship is still being searched," he said.

He added that after receiving reports of the ship fire incident, SAR Timika dispatched a joint team using a 600 pK powered fast boat to the location to search for victims.

"Until this news is published, the joint SAR team is still searching for one passenger on the Budi Sentosa 3 ship," he said again.
