Indonesian Navy Prepares Logistics Carrier Ships For The 2024 Election

The Indonesian Navy has prepared a fleet of naval ships (KAL) and warships for the KRI to assist the General Election Commission (KPU) in distributing logistics for the 2024 General Election to archipelago areas that can only be accessed by sea.

The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali said the deployment of the ships was carried out after a request from the KPU.

"Until now there has been no (request from the KPU). However, we are ready. Usually, it is discussed through the TNI commander. Later, the TNI commander will order the Indonesian Navy," Ali said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 21.

Ali explained that every election, the Indonesian Navy always prepares its fleet to help transport logistics, such as ballot boxes and ballots.

"From year to year, we usually prepare several elements of the KRI to bring electoral boxes, yes, ballot boxes, logistics, what is needed, especially to remote islands, outer islands that cannot be missed by air, by land clearly cannot, by air cannot because there is no airport, so only ports. So, we will assign our ships to remote islands and outer islands," Ali explained.

According to the KSAL, usually the request received by the Indonesian Navy is nearing the voting stage or around the beginning of 2024, because the schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections will take place on February 14, 2024.

For the 2019 Presidential and Legislative Elections, several Indonesian Navy ships were deployed to assist logistics and security distribution, including KAL Weling 1-7-15, KAL Suluh Pari I-6-6.0, KAL Mamuju I-6-6, Marine Security Patrol Vessel (Patkamla) Langkai Island I-6-6.3, KAL Pintar I.6-57, KAL Samalona I.6-02, KRI Teluk Cendrawasih-533, and KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332.
