2 Disturbed Pump Houses, Moved Pumps Deployed To Handle Semarang Kaligawe Floods

CENTRAL JAVA - Moving pumps were deployed to deal with flooding in Kaligawe and Genuk, Semarang City. These efforts were carried out in the aftermath of pump houses in the Tenggang and Sringin rivers not operating optimally.

Of the six pumps in the Tenggang River, only three operate, while in the Sringin River only one pump operates from five pumps in the pump house.

Semarang Mayor Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu said the non-optimal pump house managed by the Pemali Juana River Basin Center (BBWS) was caused by damage so that flood suction was not optimal.

"I checked the Tenggang River, the pump was only on three of the six and that was not optimal. The other three reasons are still being repaired. And in the Sringin River, which should have been five, one was on," said Ita, Hevearita's nickname in Semarang, Wednesday, November 15, was confiscated by Antara.

Ita said the heavy rain that occurred on Tuesday night, November 14, flooded the Jalan Kaligawe area and several areas of Genuk with heights varying from foot to knee.

He asked Pemali Juana's BBWS to seriously pay attention to the flood problem in Semarang because the Semarang City Government has worked hard to take various steps.

"The Semarang City Government has dredged sedimentation and thank God Woltermonginsidi has not been inundated," he said.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Semarang City Public Works Agency (DPU) as technical agencies that deploy moving pumps to reduce flood discharge.

"We also went there (checking the Kaligawe floods, ed.) with the Mayor, one pump from BPBD and from the DPU has been deployed," said Head of Semarang City BPBD Endro Pudyo Martanto.

He admitted that he had communicated with BBWS Pemali Juana, which oversees the two pump houses to check and repair damaged pumps, including in other pump houses.

"We have coordinated with BBWS Pemali Juana. The existing pumps have been working optimally. Meanwhile, those that are damaged, we have conveyed to BBWS to be repaired immediately," he said.
