President Biden's Adviser Says US Doesn't Want To See A Shootout At Gaza Hospital

JAKARTA - White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the United States did not want armed fighting to occur in hospitals in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, with this being conveyed to the Israeli side.

"The United States does not want to see a shootout at the hospital, where innocent people, patients receiving medical treatment, are caught in a firefight and we have held active consultations with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on this matter," Sullivan told CBS News at the "Face the Nation" event., reported Reuters November 13.

Earlier, Israeli soldiers said they were ready to evacuate the babies from Gaza's largest hospital, but Palestinian officials said people were still trapped inside, with two newborns dead and dozens others at risk of power outages amid the fierce fighting that broke out in the enclave.

Al-Shifa's largest hospital and other hospitals in northern Gaza, which became the focus of Israel's month-long war to destroy Hamas and release hostages detained by militants, are barely capable of treating patients. More and more people are injured every day due to Israel's fierce bombings.

Sullivan said open source information showed "Hamas uses hospitals as much as they use many other civilian facilities, for command and control, for weapons storage, to accommodate its fighters, something that is a violation of the law of war."

Furthermore, Sullivan also said that Pam Sam's country continues to try to evacuate its citizens out of the Gaza Strip.

"The gates have been opened and closed. The list has covered Americans in a few days and not in other days. But the point is, today the gates are opened. We will move American citizens and their family members out," he said.
