KM Labobar Continues Shipping To Papua After The Fire

JAKARTA - The KM Labobar ship continued its voyage to West Papua and Papua after experiencing a fire incident in Dek 7 on Friday, November 3.

PT PELNI (Persero) Internal and External Communication Manager Dittoyanda said there had been a fire incident at KM Labobar from Balikpapan, East Kalimantan Province to Pantoloan, Central Sulawesi Province, on Friday at 14.25 LT.

"The exact incident occurred in Dek 7 outside the right. The fire was successfully extinguished by the crew at 14:40 LT using fire extinguishers on the ship," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, November 4.

He said after the fire incident, KM Labobar had docked in Pantoloan at 20.30 WITA. Then at 22.30 WITA KM Labobar sailed to Bitung, North Sulawesi Province.

"KM Labobar continues its voyage according to schedule. From Bitung then to Ternate, then entering the provinces of West Papua and Papua starting with Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Serui, Jayapura. For certainty, the ship's arrival schedule can be checked regularly through the PELNI Mobile application or branch offices," he said.

Ditto said the fire could be handled both by the crew and it was confirmed that the fire had been completely extinguished and there were no casualties in the incident.

He explained that the fire was thought to have been caused by cigarette butts being thrown into the trash containing flammable materials, namely styrofoam in it. However, the exact cause of the fire cannot be concluded and is still under investigation.

"As a result of the incident, two sticks and four ILR units were damaged. The value of the loss cannot be stated yet," he said.
