Repeatedly Committing Rape, Stepfather In Ambon Sentenced To 13 Years In Prison

MALUKU - The Ambon District Court (PN) sentenced the defendant Victor Rangkoli to 13 years in prison who was proven to have committed further rape to the victim, a minor.

"Declaring that the defendant is legally and convincingly proven guilty of violating Article 82 paragraph (2) and Article 81 paragraph (3) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection," said Chief Justice of the Panel of Judges, Orpa Marthina who chaired the trial at the Ambon District Court, Maluku, Tuesday, October 31., confiscated by Antara.

The defendant Victor was also subject to an additional penalty in the form of paying a fine of Rp. 10 million, subsidiary to six months in prison.

The aggravating thing was that the defendant was sentenced to prison and fined because his actions had traumatized the victim, who was his stepdaughter.

Meanwhile, the mitigating factor is that the defendant was polite in the trial, admitted his actions, and had never been convicted.

The judge's decision is lower than the 14-year prison sentence and a fine of Rp. 10 million, subsidiary to six months in prison, filed by the public prosecutor (JPU) of the Maluku High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) Evi.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant committed a criminal act of assault and sexual intercourse against a victim who was still a minor continuously in Saumlaki, the capital of Tanaimbar Islands Regency since 2021.

At that time the victim, who was at home, temporarily fell asleep in the room and then the defendant entered and forced the victim to have a relationship like husband and wife.

Meanwhile, Dino Hulisellan from LBH Humanum who was appointed by the panel of judges as legal adviser stated that the decision was accepted by both the defendant and the prosecutor.

"This continued case of forced and sexual intercourse was revealed accidentally when the victim's wife reported the defendant to the KKT Police for neglecting his wife and child," said Dino.

Then from the results of the interrogation carried out by the police, it was revealed that the defendant had repeatedly raped the victim.
