Maluku BKSDA Secures 4 Yellow-crested Baby Sistua

The Maluku Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) has again secured four baby yellow-crested cockatoos without owners at Saumlaki Port, Maluku.

"Our officers found four baby older siblings while monitoring the circulation of wild animal plants (TSL) on the Pelni Leuser Ship without owners. This possibility came from Dobo, Maluku," said the Maluku BKSDA Forest Police (Polhut), Seto, in Ambon as reported by ANTARA, Friday, October 27.

He said, based on these findings, officers then met with the ship's management to report this, which was an act of violation and at the same time asked for supervision of the ship when passengers boarded every port.

"Currently the baby bird is being treated and secured in the Saumlaki conservation cage," he said.

The public is advised to increase awareness to preserve Maluku endemic animals, and not maintain what else they trade.

"I hope the public is aware that wildlife is not to be kept carelessly, because it will cause it to become extinct," Seto hoped.

It is known, based on the provisions of Law no. 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems that,

Anyone who deliberately catches, injures, kills, keeps, owns, maintains, transports, and trades protected animals alive; (Article 21 paragraph (2) letter a), is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of five years and a maximum fine of Rp. 100 million (Article 40 paragraph (2)).
