Central Mamuju Police, West Sulawesi, is investigating a video recording containing plastic rice circulating in social media.

"We have investigated the viral video through social media and have visited the party who recorded the video stating that there was plastic rice entering Central Mamuju," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Mamuju Police, Iptu Fredy, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 25.

From the results of the examination, said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, the video recorder admitted that the video was the result of his own thoughts and not based on scientific evidence.

"We emphasize that what was conveyed in the video is not true and the perpetrator has apologized for causing a commotion in the community," explained Fredy.

He appealed to the public, especially residents of Central Mamuju Regency, not to easily believe and not make news that is not yet certain.

"We urge the public not to easily believe and not to make news that is not certain about the truth, let alone what is spread through social media," said Fredy.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit said that his party had also coordinated with the relevant agencies, including the Central Mamuju Regency Agriculture Service, to take samples of yellow rice which was said to come from plastic rice.

"The sample will be taken to the laboratory for further testing," explained Fredy.

The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit also asked the people in Central Mamuju Regency not to worry about the viral plastic rice video.

"The existence of the video does not necessarily indicate that the rice is plastic. We will wait for the results of the test from the Central Mamuju Agriculture Service to determine whether it is really plastic rice or not," explained Fredy.

Meanwhile, in the one minute fourteen second video, two men were seen in an oil palm plantation area opening a package of yellow rice.

Then, another man who recorded the video gave a narrative that plastic rice had entered Salu Baranak Village and other villages while squeezed the yellow rice.

"Look, I don't want to be destroyed. This plastic rice has entered Salu Baranak Village. Be careful eating plastic rice," said the man who recorded the video.

One day later, the video recorder who claimed to have recorded the video on October 22, 2023 apologized for the viral video.

The viral video had spread on social media, especially in WhatsApp groups in Central Mamuju Regency, including in Mamuju Regency.
