Visited By Belgian LEAVE, BNPT Introduces Indonesia's Deradicalization Program

JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) introduced the Indonesian deradicalization program to the Belgium Unit for Threat Analysis (CUTA) Coordinator during a visit to the BNPT Office in Sentul, West Java, Tuesday, October 17.

Director of Deradicalization of BNPT Brigadier General Pol R. Ahmad Nurwakhid explained, the three major themes of deradicalization policies, namely ideological rehabilitation programs, competency training and social reeducation.

"The substance of the deradicalization program has three big themes. The first is that we carry out ideological rehabilitation with a psychological approach or a humanitarian approach, then competency training so that they can prosper themselves after leaving, then social reeducation," said Ahmad, quoted from a written statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday, October 18, confiscated by Antara.

According to Ahmad, the activity of working for the Belgian CUTA to BNPT can be the basis for cross-border collaboration efforts in tackling terrorism.

"We all believe that terrorism is a crime against humanity and a collaboration like these visits for us is something good for us to collaborate in dealing with terrorism," he said.

Furthermore, Head of the Belgian LEAVEA Department of Strategic Analysis Bart Thys said his party could learn from the study-sharing and experience sessions of the deradicalization program.

"Thank you for receiving our visit, I think the deradicalization program is something we can learn in our country (Belgium) which may have the same problem," said Thys, who is also the head of the delegation from the working visit.

The working visit of the Belgian CuTA to BNPT also strengthens bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Belgium. On that occasion, the Belgian CUTA delegation also visited the Center for Job Training (BLK) area.
