SOUTH KALIMANTAN - The Regional Library and Archives Service of South Kalimantan Province (Kalsel) destroyed thousands of archival files from various agencies from 1980 to 2014.
Head of the Regional Library and Archives Service of South Kalimantan Province, Nurliani Dardie, said that at least 2,112 files of the archives had been destroyed.
"The destruction of thousands of archival files is scheduled for October 18, 2023," he said in Banjarmasin, Friday, October 13, which was confiscated by Antara.
Nurliani said that the execution of the destruction of thousands of archival files had received permission from the National Archives Agency.
"Similarly, he has also received approval through the Decree (SK) of the Governor of South Kalimantan H Sahbirin Noor," he said.
Nurliani said the destruction of the former archive aims to streamline in terms of maintenance costs as well as archival storage infrastructure and infrastructure.

The thousands of files destroyed from the Library and Archives Service were 1,592 files from the 1980 to 2014 period.
Then, as many as 320 former archives from the South Kalimantan Provincial Cooperatives, UMK and Manpower Offices from 2003 to 2010.
Furthermore, 200 archival files from the South Kalimantan Provincial Energy and Mineral Resources Office from 1989 to 2005.
Nurliana revealed that the destruction of archival files belonging to the South Kalimantan Provincial Government was not a new item, because they had been carried out since 2018.
According to him, the South Kalimantan Provincial Government's Archives Depot in Banjarbaru City has destroyed 48,072 archives files belonging to the South Kalimantan Provincial Government from 2018 to 2020.
"The thousands of archival files that were destroyed were from 1967 to 2005," he said.
A total of 7,026 archival files with the period 1971-2005 being destroyed in 2021 and 3,090 archives for the period 1960-2009 were destroyed in 2022.
"Previously, based on records, it had only destroyed archives in 2002 and 2010," said Nurliani.
