122 Forest And Land Fires Occurred In South Lampung In 10 Months, The Most In Kalianda District

LAMPUNG - The Fire and Rescue Service (Damkarmat) of South Lampung Regency handled 122 cases of forest and land fires (karhutla) in the period January to October 12, 2023.

"The total number of land fires that occurred in South Lampung from January to October 12 is 122 cases," said Head of the Damkar Division of the South Lampung Damkarmat Service, Rully Fikriansyah, in Kalianda District, South Lampung, Thursday, October 12, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said the main cause of the high number of forest and land fires that hit South Lampung was due to the hot weather and the long dry season.

"Hot weather during the dry season makes grass and plants dry up which results in flammable," he said.

He said, of the 122 fire cases in the area, the most cases occurred in Kalianda District.

"Indeed, the fire occurred the most frequently in Kalianda District. During that period there were 60 cases of fire," he said.

Therefore, he appealed to the public to be more careful and increase awareness of the potential for forest and land fires.

"Especially at this time of the dry season, so that many plants are dry and the fire is easily burned," he said.

He said public awareness is very important, when clearing plantation or agricultural land not by burning.

He also appealed to residents who cross roads that have the potential to fire so as not to throw cigarette butts because it can trigger a fire.

"We urge residents to be more careful in using the fire, not to throw away the remaining or cigarette butts on the side of the road because it can cause fires," he said.
