Toll Roads In Sumatra Stopped From PSN, Several Provinces Cancel Connected

YOGYAKARTA - The Indonesian government has suspended several National Strategic Projects (PSN) because no funding and work has yet been started. Several toll projects in Sumatra were dropped from PSN so that plans to connect several regions did not take place.

"It was all removed from PSN because the project was between off taker and the finances had not closed," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto in early October.

There are as many as four toll roads in Sumatra that have been expelled from PSN. So which toll road construction has finally not been continued?

A number of Trans Sumatra toll projects were terminated from the PSN list, namely the Rantau Prapat-Kisaran Toll Road, Langsa-Lhokseumawe Toll Road, Lhokseumawe-Sigli Toll Road, and Dumai-Sigambal-Rantau Prapat Toll Road.

As a result of the deletion of several toll road projects, several provinces on the island of Sumatra were canceled via toll roads.

The Langsa-Lhokseumawe Toll Road is part of the Medan-Banda Aceh Toll Road. Because the construction of this toll road was stopped, the plan for the toll road connecting Medan to Banda Aceh was canceled.

The Lhokseumawe-Sigli toll road is also included in the section of the Medan-Banda Aceh Toll Road. The construction of this toll road also aims to connect Medan to Banda Aceh, but was eventually canceled.

The Dumai-Sigambal-Rantau Prapat toll road has a total length of 175 km. The construction of this toll road is to connect North Sumatra Province with Riau. The toll road from Dumai to Rantau Prapat is the main section of the Trans Sumatra toll road that connects the two provinces, which in the end did not happen.

Although there were several toll road projects issued from PSN, there was one toll road that was successfully completed. On September 6, 2023, Hedy Rahadian, Director General of Highways, revealed that the toll road that was successfully built was the toll road that connects South Sumatra Province with Lampung Province.

The toll road section from South Sumatra to Lampung has been completed 100% and is the only toll road that has been connected. Currently, the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JJTS) section has stretched along 882 km. Although it is not fully connected, the existence of toll roads on the island of Sumatra is able to provide many benefits to the community.

Hendy Rahadian also said that there will be 5 toll roads that will be completed in 2023. The list of toll road projects in question is the Kuala Tanjung-Tebing Tinggi Parapat Toll Road section 1 Kuala Tanjung-Tebing Tinggi-Indrapura section 4 Serbelawan-Pematang Sianta.

Then other toll projects, namely the Indrapura-Kisaran toll road section 1 Indrapura-Five Puluh, section 2 Fifty-Kisaran, and the binjai-Langsa section 2 Stabat Tanjungpura toll road.

Furthermore, there is the Pekanbaru-Padang section 5 Bangkinang-Pangkalan toll road project and the Sigli-Banda Aceh toll road section 1 Padang Tidji-Seulimeum section.

That's the review of the list of toll roads in Sumatra being crossed out of PSN because the taker and finances have not closed yet. The Trans Sumatra Toll Road project has been in the works since 2015. Although this construction initially had several rejections, the presence of toll roads has provided many benefits to the community.
