BATURAJA - After several months of drought due to the dry season, it finally rained in some areas in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra on Tuesday afternoon.
Although it only lasted for a few minutes, this natural phenomenon was greeted with joy by the local community because it was able to overcome the clean water difficulties experienced during the dry season.
Fitri (34), a resident of Batukuning Village, West Baturaja District, admitted that she was very happy with the rain. He hopes that this rain can bring blessings to OKU residents, especially for those who experience clean water difficulties and land fires that are rampant in the area.
"I am very happy that it has rained in Batukuning today. Hopefully, with this rain, we will all be free from the smog that can disrupt the breathing and agriculture and plantations, residents will no longer dry up," he said as quoted by Antara.
He also hopes that this rain can help extinguish the existing hotspots and provide sufficient water supply for local residents.
"We pray together that it will rain again and not only in Batukuning but in all areas that are now experiencing drought," he hoped.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the dry season will end in most parts of Indonesia starting at the end of October and the start of the rainy season gradually begins in November 2023.
"According to the BMKG predictions we received, the peak impact of El Nino occurred in September 2023, but earlier we also analyzed from the latest satellite data, it seems that October has started to rain," said Manager of Pusdalops BPBD OKU Gunalfi separately added.
He hopes that it will rain evenly wet the area so that it can overcome forest and land fires that have occurred in OKU Regency for the last two months.
"During the August-September 2023 period, 64 cases of forest and land fires occurred in OKU Regency due to the long dry season," he said.
