Courier 267 Kg Of Cannabis From Aceh Demanded The Death Penalty

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) has demanded that the defendants Sabri alias Bri and Sapuan Idris alias Idris (separate files) from Aceh be sentenced to death in a marijuana-type narcotics courier case weighing 267 kilograms.

"Ask the panel of judges to impose the death penalty against the defendants Sabri alias Bri and Sapuan Idris alias Idris," Sri Delyanti said at the Medan District Court, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 5.

Sri Delyanti said that from the facts of the trial, the two defendants had fulfilled the elements of committing a criminal act of Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.

The essence of the article is to commit or participate in committing criminal acts without rights or against the law offering to sell, sell, buy, accept, become intermediaries in buying and selling, exchanging, or handing over Category I narcotics in the form of plants in the form of 17 sacks of white plastic burlap containing 267,000 grams (267 kilograms) of dried marijuana leaves.

"The aggravating thing is that the actions of the two defendants are contrary to the government's program in eradicating drugs, while there are no mitigating factors," said Sri Delyanti.

After reading the memorandum of demand from the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office, the panel of judges chaired by Sayed Tarmizi continued the trial with the agenda of a memorandum of defense (pledoi) read by the defendant's legal adviser next week.

The indictment revealed that on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, officers from the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate received information from the public that there was a shipment of dried marijuana leaves from Aceh to Medan.

Then the North Sumatra Police personnel saw the characteristics of the car in Bandar Tongging Tigapanah Village, Tigapanah District, Karo Regency, and stopped the car.

Furthermore, the personnel conducted an inspection in the car which found 17 burlap sacks weighing 267 kilograms of marijuana. As a result of the interrogation, the two defendants got it from Jais to be handed over in Medan. They were given a salary of Rp. 30 million.
