Observer: Yusril Is The Right Figure Of The Vice Presidential Candidate To Accompany Prabowo

JAKARTA - Political observer from the Public Research Institute (LRP) Muhammad Al-Fatih assessed that Yusril Ihza Mahendra was the most qualified candidate for vice president to accompany Prabowo Subianto.

"The general chairman of the Crescent Star Party (PBB) who has always supported Prabowo, namely Yusril Ihza Mahendra, is the most appropriate figure," he said in a written statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday, September 30.

He explained that Yusril is a statesman, intellectual, and politician who has served three strategic ministers under three different presidents. Yusril has a wealth of experience in the international world.

Al-Fatih said Yusril's role in compiling various United Nations Conventions (UN), leading the Indonesian delegation to various international meetings, and was once the President of the Asia-Africa Legal Consultative Organization based in New Delhi.

In addition, Yusril is a moderate Islamic politician who is accepted by all groups. He pointed out the statement of the late Gus Dur who once said that Yusril's grandfather was a cultural Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) cleric, even though Yusril's father was a Masyumi.

Therefore, he said, Yusril was familiar with religious practices practiced by NU circles. No wonder Yusril is familiar with the Hadratusyeikh Hasyim Asy'ari family, starting from Pak Ud, Gus Dur, and Gus Solah.

Meanwhile, Postgraduate Teacher of Political Science at the National University (Unas) Syafrizal Rambe said what Prabowo needed from his companion was an experienced technocrat.

Syafrizal emphasized that with the increasingly complex constitutional tasks of the state going forward, the principle of meritocracy becomes an iron law that is increasingly beneficial in choosing a vice presidential figure.

"What Prabowo needs, with the strength of the Golkar Party (Golongan Karya) and the SBY network (Susilo Bambang Yudhono) which has been close and declared support, is actually a technocratic, intellectual, and scholar who controls aspects of state administration and government," explained Syafrizal.
