Indonesia's Rice Consumption Is The Highest In The World, Megawati Alludes To The Dangers Of Diabetes

Chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri said Indonesia is very dependent on rice originating from rice as staples. As a result, many people suffer from diabetes or sugar disease.

This was conveyed by Megawati during a political speech at the opening of the PDIP Rakernas IV with the theme 'Food Sovereignty for the Welfare of the Indonesian People's People's Welfare' with the sub-them 'Pangan as an Emblem for the Predemic of Indonesian Leadership for the World'.

"If we look back, it turns out that it depends on our lives to consume rice," Megawati said in her speech at the opening of the Rakernas IV at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Friday, September 29.

Megawati then revealed that she had supporting data. "The level of rice consumption has a capacity of 96 kilograms and it turns out to be the highest in the world," he said.

According to him, this figure is too high. In fact, continued Megawati, the number of healthy doses should range from 65 kilograms per person in a year.

"The high consumption of rice has implications for health such as diseases, including those that are very, now leading to the highest possible disease, which is either sugar or diabetes," said the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Megawati then mentioned that one solution to this problem was to take advantage of other commodities. Because, there are still many food sources that have a nutritional value with a good level of health.

However, the problem is not answered if Indonesia still relies on imports. Thus, Megawati reminded the importance of sovereignty in the food sector by prioritizing farmers and fishermen according to the message of the First President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno or Bung Karno.

"That's why what Bung Karno has said that the tongue and stomach of the Indonesian people must not be colonized by imported food, it can be used as material for criticism of the ideological faction in the food sector," he said.

For information, PDIP held the Rakernas IV on Friday, September 29 to Sunday, October 1. In the opening of the presence of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and Ganjar Pranowo, who are presidential candidates from the party bearing the bull symbol.
