Found Rotting, Police Reveal Cyanide Cause Of Death Of USU Student

Medan Police finally revealed the cause of death of Mahira Dinabila, a student at the University of North Sumatra (USU) who was found dead in a rotting condition at her home in the Rivera Complex area, Medan Amplas District, Medan City, North Sumatra, in early May 2023.

The police said Mahira Dinabila's death was due to suicide by drinking cyanide poison or potassium which was ordered through an online judging application. This is the result of the conclusions of all expert investigations.

"As a result of our investigation, we have also carried out a case title on September 14 yesterday with the conclusion of the results of the case title, this conclusion is also drawn from the results of the investigation, the conclusion is that our younger brother Mahira Dinabila died of suicide," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Medan Police, Kompol Teuku Fathir Mustafa, Tuesday 19 September.

Fahir also said that the process of investigating the death of the USU student was carried out scientifically or so-called scientific investigation by examining fourteen items of evidence found at the crime scene, one of which was cyanide.

"The investigation began with TKP processing activities and also secured evidence outside the crime scene. Around the TKP We found 14 items of evidence, which we then forwarded for scientific research. One of them is evidence that an item that has been scientifically investigated is cyanide or potassium," explained Fathir.

In investigating this case, the police have examined 33 witnesses, 5 of whom are forensic, laboratory, toxicology and psychological expert witnesses.

Meanwhile, the forensic doctor at Bhayangkara Hospital in Medan, Mistar Ritonga, revealed that from the autopsy results, the cause of Mahira Dinabila's death was a weak death caused by the entry of cyanide liquid into the body.

"The cause of death from the results of our examination, from the autopsy results coupled with the results of additional examinations, we draw the conclusion that the victim's death was weakly dead, the term was due to entry or getting cyanide poison," said Mistar.

It is known, Mahira Dinabila was found dead on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at her home in the Rivera Complex area, Medan Amplas District, Medan City, North Sumatra. When found, Mahira Dinabila's body was in unnatural condition. His face has become a skull, while his hair is in a state of fire.

The family reported the case of the USU student's death to the police because the victim's death was allegedly unnatural or murdered. Based on the report, the police also carried out an exumation or re-autopsy and an investigation was carried out regarding the death of the victim Mahira Dinabila.
