Tomorrow's KPU-DPR Consultation Meeting On The Proposal For Accelerated Registration Of Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates

JAKARTA - Member of the General Election Commission (KPU) Idham Holik said tomorrow, Wednesday (20/9), his party will hold a consultation meeting with Commission II of the DPR and the government at the DPR building regarding the registration of presidential candidates (candidates) and vice presidents (cawapres).

"At 15.30 (WIB) a consultation meeting will begin with legislators, the DPR and the Government, as referred to in Article 75 paragraph 4 of Law Number 7 of 2017 which is located in the DPR. This consultation meeting must indeed be taken by the KPU, before the KPU invites the draft technical regulations for the implementation of elections," said Idham, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 19.

In a consultation meeting with the DPR and the government, Idham said that the KPU would discuss the option of proposing the KPU regarding the registration schedule for presidential and vice-presidential candidates to be held from 10 to 16 October 2023.

The option, he said, was in accordance with the public test regarding the draft General Election Commission (PKPU) Regulation on the Nomination of Presidential and Vice Presidential Election Contestants which had been carried out by his party some time ago.

"What we publish in public trials, the draft registration period for the presidential and vice presidential election participants is October 10-16. That is the official draft that we convey to the public in public trials," he said.

After holding a consultation meeting with the DPR and the government, it will be continued with a harmonization meeting of the laws and regulations held by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).

"To ensure that the KPU draft is promulgated later, it has an alignment, yes, it has harmony with other laws and regulations," he said.

The KPU is also trying to get certainty regarding the decision to register presidential and vice-presidential candidates this week.

"Yes, it will be sought, this regulation will be promulgated immediately, we are also very interested in conducting broad socialization to Indonesian voters," he said.

The KPU has prepared a draft KPU Regulation (PKPU) related to the registration of presidential and vice presidential candidates to be used as material at a consultation meeting with the DPR and the government which is planned to be held on Wednesday (20/9).

"The KPU has prepared a draft KPU Regulation regarding the nomination of the president and vice president. The plan is that on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the draft will be used as material for a consultation meeting between the KPU and the DPR RI and the government," said KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari.

He said that if the registration of presidential and vice-presidential candidates to October 10, 2023, the duration of document verification to the determination of candidate pairs (paslon) on November 13, 2023 would be looser.
