PBNU Encourages The Establishment Of A Special Directorate To Handle Islamic Boarding Schools

JAKARTA - Komisi Bahtsul Masail Qonuniyyah Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) mendorong pembentukan direktorat yang khusus menangani pesantren dalam struktur organisasi Kementerian Agama guna mendukung penerapan Undang-Undang tentang Pesantren.

"To carry out a mandate of a very large law requires more complete derivative regulations, and a stronger organizational structure," said Chairman of Commission Bahtsul Masail Qonuniyyah PBNU Abdul Ghaffar Rozindilansir ANTARA, Tuesday, September 19.

When delivering a press statement regarding the results of the Nahdlatul Ulama National Conference, Abdul Ghaffar stated the need for a strong bureaucratic structure to support the implementation of the Law on Islamic Boarding Schools.

"The bureaucratic structure in question is a special department that handles pesantren, at least it is a special directorate that handles pesantren," he said.

In addition, Abdul Ghaffar explained that Law (UU) Number 18 of 2019 concerning Islamic Boarding Schools includes rules regarding the function of Islamic boarding schools as educational institutions, da'wah institutions, and community empowerment institutions.

According to him, the function of Islamic boarding schools as educational institutions is already running and strengthened by the issuance of derivative regulations from the Islamic Boarding School Law.

However, the function of Islamic boarding schools as da'wah institutions and community empowerment institutions is considered not to be running optimally because there are no derivative regulations regarding this matter.

"This is understandable considering that these functions are functions that become the main duties (topic duties and functions) across ministries, not only the Ministry of Religion as the leading sector," he said.

Abdul Ghaffar stated the need for the issuance of regulations at the presidential regulation level to optimize the function of Islamic boarding schools as da'wah institutions and community empowerment institutions.
