BANGKA - A fisherman from Sungailiat on behalf of Malikul Akbar (33) was rescued after the fishing boat used to sink due to tidal waves.
The victim swam to the Singkep ship which was active in mining tin seeds not far from the scene of the incident.
"Malikul Akbar swam using a jerry can-type emergency safety device after the fishing vessel used to sink in the waters of Karang Dry Muara Air Kantung Sungailiat, on Monday at 23.00 WIB," explained Head of BPBD Bangka Regency Ridwan in Bangka quoted from Antara, Tuesday, September 5.
On this day at around 06.00 WIB, the Singkep crew contacted the victim's family to convey the condition of Malikul Akbar who survived the disaster.
"The victim's family immediately reported to the Bangka Belitung Islands Police Dit Polairud Post, as well as to get evacuation assistance for victims," he explained.
In assisting the process of evacuating Malikul Akbar, led directly by the Directorate of Polairud Polda Bangka Belitung, his party deployed a number of personnel from the Rapid Response Unit (URC).
"I remind all fishermen to be aware of weather conditions in the waters of arrest from the potential threat of tidal waves which are usually accompanied by strong winds," he said.
Ridwan advised fishermen who go to sea, apart from being aware of the potential for tidal waves, should also not force themselves at sea.
