Residents Of Rempang Island Affected By The Relocation Of Eco-City Development Can Still Use The Right To Select The 2024 Election

RIAU Residents of Rempang Island, Batam City, who were relocated because they were included in the Eco-City Rempang development area, could still exercise their voting rights in the upcoming 2024 General Election.

Riau Islands KPU member Priyo Handoko said the relocated residents could later continue to vote and his party would focus on voter services on voting day.

"Residents affected by the relocation and eviction can still use their voting rights according to the TPS location where the person concerned is registered with the DPT," Priyo said, quoting Antara, Sunday, August 20.

He explained that the KPU will also record residents and polling stations affected by the relocation and find the best solution so that residents' voting rights are maintained.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Batam Mawardi KPU said that his party had thought of the best steps if the relocation occurred before the upcoming 2024 General Election.

According to him, the current steps from the KPU, namely the KPU, will map the affected residents and polling stations.

"From the four affected points, there are two polling stations that can still vote," he said.

Then the KPU will also coordinate with the local government starting from the village level.

In addition, they also socialize the electoral place that can be used by voters.

That way, the KPU also encourages voters to take care of the transfer process, especially for those who want to move outside Batam City.

"The transfer of choice can be up to D-7 if the process does happen. Until now we are still preparing to move to vote," said Mawardi.

Until now, the Batam KPU is still coordinating to determine a way out for victims of the relocation to ensure that residents of Pulau Rempang can channel their voting rights in the upcoming elections.
