KALTIM - People with deaf disabilities are now able to take the exam to obtain a driving license (SIM) in East Kalimantan. This was conveyed by the Traffic Director of the East Kalimantan Police, Police Commissioner Sonny Irawan, Sunday, August 20.

"The officers who serve can speak sign language, so that service is smoother," said Police Commissioner Sonny Irawan, quoting Antara.

This service applies to all police stations in East Kalimantan because all officers have received the training. People who are deaf or deaf can get SIM A and SIM C. On one occasion, you can take care of one type of SIM first. SIM A is a SIM to drive a car and SIM C is a SIM to ride a motorcycle.

According to the Dirlantas Polda Kaltim, the deaf are undergoing a process like other normal residents of SIM applicants. After completing the administrative costs, the right to take a written exam, and then a practice test. If you meet the requirements for knowledge and skills or pass these two practical exams, then you are entitled to a driver's license.

"We also give special stickers with red lines crossed from the ear to be pasted on the helmet for those who pass the SIM C test, and to be pasted on the rear glass for those who pass the SIM A test," said Dirlantas.

The sticker indicates that the driver or driver is deaf.

This sticker also aims for safety, namely when on the road in traffic, so that drivers and other drivers behind the driver or deaf driver take adjustment or anticipation steps.

According to Kombes Sonny, this service is not only a form of social justice for the rights of citizens, but also to improve traffic safety and driving safety on the highway.

"So deaf friends can be independent, can ride their own motorbikes or cars while still being able to maintain the safety of all traffic at the same time," said Dirlantas.

As of Tuesday (15 August), 90 deaf people have registered to get a driver's license. Every day several deaf people are tested with 10-15 people who are scheduled to take a written exam.
