Police Arrest Thugs Of Shop Owners In Karawang

The Karawang Police arrested thugs who threatened shop owners in Kotabaru District, Karawang Regency, West Java.

"The perpetrator H (45) carried out extortion and threatened murder by asking for a business license," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Karawang Police AKP Arip Bastomi as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 7.

The thuggery action carried out by the perpetrator against businessmen in the Kotabaru sub-district, Karawang was allegedly carried out in groups.

The police are still investigating the case.

From the examination, the perpetrator with the initials along with four friends came to the victim's place of business and asked about the legality and business license of the victim.

At the location, the perpetrator got angry talking by shouting, asking the victim for money and asking for the parking lot in front of the shop to be managed by the perpetrator.

The perpetrator's actions were caught on CCTV as evidence of the perpetrator's extortion to the victim.

CCTV footage of the thuggery action later went viral on a number of social media platforms.

"The perpetrator with the initials H was arrested on Saturday, August 5, 2023. As for the other suspects, we are still investigating," said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit.

From the arrest, the police confiscated a car, a cellphone, clothes and CCTV footage.

For his actions, the perpetrator is now being held at the Karawang Police Headquarters detention center. Furthermore, he was threatened with Article 335 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code, with the threat of one year in prison.
