Two Fake Police Robb Online Taxi Drivers, 15 Actions With His Girlfriend

Two fake police officers who claimed to be members of the West Jakarta Metro Police were arrested by members of the Tambora Police Criminal Investigation Unit because they were caught stealing cellphones belonging to online taxi drivers. The two suspects with the initials SR (34) and AR (21), are lovers.

"The two suspects are perpetrators who often commit crimes with victims of online taxi drivers. The mode of taking away the victim's cellphone. They were arrested in the Tanjung Duren area, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta," said Tambora Police Chief Kompol Putra Pratama when confirmed by VOI, Tuesday, July 25.

The arrests of these two perpetrators, continued Kompol Putra, when his party received a report from the online taxi driver. As a result, the Tambora Police Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation and arrested the perpetrators of the lovers.

In the action, the perpetrator with the initials AR acted as the person who ordered an online taxi. Meanwhile, his girlfriend, SR, plays the role of a person who claims to be a member of the police.

"The modus operandi used by the two perpetrators was that they initially ordered an online taxi through an application with a fake account. They used the police station address as a point or pick-up address to convince the victim that the perpetrator was a member of the National Police," he said.

After the victim arrived at the pick-up point, only AR was riding, while his girlfriend did not join. The perpetrator AR when he was in the car also did not carry a cellphone.

"The perpetrator of SR deliberately took an online taxi without carrying his own cellphone because on the way, the perpetrator SR would pretend to borrow the driver's cellphone or the victim to be able to communicate with his girlfriend," he explained.

On the way, the perpetrator asked to pull over for a while on the pinggi street with the excuse of wanting to contact his girlfriend. Then the perpetrator borrowed the victim's cellphone with the excuse of contacting his girlfriend.

"When the victim is off guard, the perpetrator will run away with the victim's cellphone," he said.

Kompol Putra added that the two perpetrators of this couple had committed this crime many times. Based on the investigation, the perpetrators admitted that they had committed fraud and embezzlement claimed to be members of the Police 15 times.

"With a location of four times in the Tambora area, seven times in Cengkareng, once in Kalideres, once in the screening, and twice in Tanjung Duren," he said.

9 units of cellphones belonging to the victims were confiscated as evidence, namely three units of the Vivo Merk cellphone, four units of Samsung Brand Hp, one unit of ID Merk Oppo and one unit of Realme brand Hp.

"Currently, the pawnshop is still being examined with the status of a witness. For their actions, the two perpetrators are suspected of Article 378 in conjunction with 372 of the Criminal Code and Article 127 paragraph (1) letter a of Law no. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with a penalty of four years in prison," he said.
