Farmer Selling Assembled Guns In Jember Arrested By Police

Jember Resort Police, East Java arrested farmers who were selling and buying illegal homemade weapons, namely SN (66) and PW (43).

"We received information from the public regarding the plan to transact homemade firearms in Balung District, so we followed up on the information," said Jember Deputy Chief of Police, Kompol Hendry Ibnu Indarto, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, July 20.

According to him, PW and his friend SH, who are still at large, bought homemade firearms without official documents and documents through SN intermediaries for Rp. 5.2 million and the weapons were obtained from GH, who is also still on the wanted list (DPO).

"PW and SH buyers have just paid Rp3.9 million to SN and from the sale, SN received a commission of Rp300 thousand. We arrested SN in Banyuwangi after developing information from PW," he said.

Based on the suspect's statement, he continued, the homemade firearms had not been used at all because PW plans to resell the weapons purchased from SN.

The police also confiscated firearms of the caliber-carrying revolver 22 and 12 rounds of ammunition from the suspect's hands which were used as evidence in the case.

"For their actions, the two farmers who are in the illegal homemade firearms business were charged with Article 1 paragraph (1) of the Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 with the threat of life imprisonment or a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison," he said.
