ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of the potential for heavy rains that flushed the Aceh Province. The public is asked to be aware of hydrometeorological disasters such as floods to strong winds. "People need to be aware of potential disasters such as floods, landslides, strong winds," said BMKG Class I forecaster Sultan Iskandar Muda Aceh Besar, Nuria in Banda Aceh, Antara, Wednesday, July 19. The potential for high rainfall occurs due to atmospheric disturbances, namely the Kelvin waves that collect rain clouds, causing heavy rain, strong winds and high waves in several areas of Aceh. Nuria said, for the next few three days, areas that need to be vigilant include Aceh Besar, Pidie, South Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, East Aceh, North Aceh, Banda Aceh, Nagan Raya, Simeulue and its surroundings. This is also exacerbated by the potential for strong winds with speeds reaching 30 knots, especially in islands such as Sabang and Simeulue cities. " “So people are advised to remain careful in carrying out outdoor activities, especially when driving, due to reduced visibility," he said. In addition, BMKG also reminded the potential for high sea waves in several areas of Aceh waters including the waters of North Sabang, the northern part of the Malacca Strait, the West Indian Ocean of Aceh, which is estimated to reach a sea level of 4 meters. "And fishermen are advised not to go to sea in these water areas, due to high waves, this is for the sake of maintaining safety," he said.

For sea wave heights, the Banda Aceh-Sabang crossing route and the Meulaboh-Sanapang Islands crossing are classified as between 1.25 - 2.50 meters.
