The public prosecutor (JPU) of the Jember District Attorney's Office demanded FM for 10 years in prison as a defendant in cases of sexual abuse and violence by a number of students at Islamic boarding schools in a follow-up hearing with an agenda of reading the demands at the Jember District Court, East Java.

"We demand that the defendant FM be sentenced to 10 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 50 million, subsidiary to six months in prison," said Public Prosecutor Adek Sri Sumiarsih after the trial at the Jember District Court, reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 17.

The defendant was charged with Article 82 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 72 e of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2016 concerning Child Protection because there were victims of minors and Article 6 letter b in conjunction with Article 15 letter b of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 12 concerning Criminal Acts of Sexual Violence.

He said some evidence of the case had been returned to the defendant, witness and victim as well as the reporter who is also FM's wife.

"The evidence returned is evidence that has been confiscated by investigators and we charged the defendant to pay the case in the amount of Rp. 5,000," he said.

During the trial, he continued, the defendant and child witnesses had time to withdraw the information in the investigation report (BAP) because they claimed to have been under pressure from the Jember Police investigators.

"They were afraid of investigators, but after being presented by a verbal verbal witness that during the examination carried out by the Jember Police investigators there was no pressure at all, so we demanded according to the facts of the trial," he said.

Adek said the next trial was postponed on Monday (24/7) next week with the agenda of reading the defense of the defendant's legal advisor.

Meanwhile, the attorney for the defendant FM, Nurul Jamal Habaib, admitted that he was surprised by the demands made by the prosecutor to his client for 10 years in prison, so that his party would reveal the facts at the trial as outlined in the memorandum of defense.

"The post-mortem evidence will relieve our client because no violence was committed and the statements of witnesses at trial," he said.
