PONOROGO - The Criminal and Investigation Unit of the Ponorogo Police, East Java, arrested two teenagers who killed a retired TNI member at a rented house in Semanding Village, Jenangan District, Ponorogo Regency.

"We arrested the two perpetrators at their homes in the Jambi (Province) area," said Ponorogo Police Chief AKBP Wimboko as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 7.

The two perpetrators had the initials JR (21) and AAF (16), who are students from Surolangun, Jambi.

They have been named as suspects in the murder of a victim of Sumiran (61), a retired member of the TNI from Magetan, East Java.

According to Wimboko, the murder crime occurred on June 25, 2023, in a rented house owned by Sunardi in Jatisari Hamlet, Semanding Village, Jenangan District, Ponorogo Regency.

The case was revealed starting with a resident's report about the alleged murder at Sunardi's rented house. From the results of the crime scene (TKP), the police found a number of blood splashes and the occupants of the rented house which suddenly disappeared.

"Then, on July 3, (the police) received information that a body was found in the Ngawi area. After we matched it, it turned out to be identical to the blood splash sample that we had identified during the previous crime scene," explained Wimboko.

The body of the man found in Ngawi was identified as Sumiran (57), who is a retired TNI AD resident of Pragak District, Magetan Regency.

The victim was previously reported to have disappeared for several days. From the results of the investigation of blood samples and fingerprints, the police identified two perpetrators of the murder.

"Our members then moved quickly to track the direction of the escape and the hiding of the two perpetrators and immediately made arrests," said Wimboko.

According to the suspect JR's statement, he and AAF admitted that they were desperate to kill the victim because on the night of the incident they had an argument about work. At that time, the two suspects hit the victim's head with a stone and stabbed him to death.

"Knowing (the victim) was killed, they wrapped the victim on a carpet and threw it on the side of the Ngawi toll road," continued Wimboko.

Furthermore, the victim's Honda Jazz was taken to Jambi and sold to someone. The money for the sale of the car was used by the suspect to buy a Yamaha RX King motorcycle.

"The two suspects are subject to Article 170 and Article 338 of the Criminal Code. With a penalty of 15 years in prison," said Wimboko.
