JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian reminded all local governments (Pemda) in the country to maintain political stability in their respective regions ahead of the 2024 General Election.

"Continue to maintain political stability and security for all regions because the political year has started, political engines have started to heat up ahead of the 2024 election," Tito said while chairing the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting (Rakor) as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 4.

Tito conveyed a number of appeals to local governments related to inflation control in their respective regions, as directed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.

Among other things, local governments are asked to increase the realization of spending through the APBD. Tito reminded local governments not to accumulate the use of the APBD at the end of the year.

"The realization of this APBD expenditure must be increased according to the target. Don't spend it piling up at the end of the year so that money is circulated," he said.

Regarding the realization of APBD spending, Tito also reminded local governments to buy as many domestic products as possible.

"Furthermore, regarding the use of domestic production, as much shopping as possible from within the country, not foreign products," he said. Tito appealed to local governments to provide social assistance (bansos) to the community, both in the form of cash and non-cash assistance with their regional budgets.

The Minister of Home Affairs said the local government could also raise economically capable community assistance to help people who could not afford it.

Tito conveyed that inflation controls need to be carried out by all local governments. Although the World Bank has designated Indonesia as a country with upper-middle economic growth, Tito said, as directed by President Jokowi, all parties need to be aware of the potential for economic growth instability.

This, he said, could happen because of the unstable global environmental situation and the ongoing political tensions in several countries.
