The Yogyakarta M6.4 Earthquake Caused Building Damage In 12 Districts

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), stated that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 on Friday (30/6) at 19:57:43 WIB which was later updated to M6.0 caused damage to buildings in 12 sub-districts of the area.

"The earthquake caused damage to buildings in 35 locations spread across 12 villages (sub-districts) in Bantul Regency," said Bantul BPBD Chief Executive Agus Yuli Herwanto in a press statement quoting Antara.

Details of the impact in the 35 locations are Bambanglipuro District one location, Dlingo two locations, Imogiri three locations, Jetis one location, Kasihan two locations, Kretek five locations, Pajangan one location, Pandak one location, Piyungan one location, Pleret one location, Pundong three locations, and Sanden 14 locations.

He said the earthquake also caused seven victims, one person died due to a heart attack during the earthquake and six others suffered minor injuries.

"Light injury victims have received treatment and treatment by PSC 119 Health Office (Health Office) Bantul, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Bantul, Panembahan Senopati Hospital, PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Hospital, and UII Hospital," he said.

Of the six people who were lightly injured, one of them had to be hospitalized and five others were hospitalized.

He further said that the handling of the impact of the earthquake had been carried out by the Bantul BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC), Social Service Tagana, Health Service, Bantul PMI, Disaster Risk Reduction Forum (FPRB), Babinsa, Bhabinkamtibmas, sub-districts, and sub-districts, were deployed to conduct rapid assessments.

BPBD Bantul Regency appealed to the people of Bantul to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified.

"Make sure the condition of the building is at home, and report it to BPBD Bantul Regency, if there is damage to the building where he lives," said Yuli.

According to him, the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 in the South Indian Ocean region of Java, on Friday (30/6) at 19:57:43 WIB, which was then updated to M6.0, the epicenter was located at coordinates 8.63 South Latitude, 110.08 East Longitude, or precisely located at sea at a distance of 81 kilometers south of Wates City, DIY at a depth of 67 kilometers.

Based on BMKG analysis, the earthquake that occurred by taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was an intermediate type of earthquake due to the subduction activity of the Indo-Australian Plate under the Eurasian Plate.

"The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has a thrust fault mechanism," he said.
