BNPB: Yogyakarta Earthquake Triggers Damage To Houses Until Power Breaks

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 in the Yogyakarta area, damaged a number of residents' houses and cut off electricity.

"The development until 20.40 WIB Friday, there were two units of residents' houses that were slightly damaged in Kebumen Regency, Central Java Province," said Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 30.

In addition, the earthquake also damaged electricity networks in several areas in Kebumen due to damage after the earthquake.

"In the Yogyakarta area, one unit of a resident's house was damaged, precisely in Gunung Kidul Regency," he said.

Abdul said that since the BMKG released the geological phenomenon at 19.57 WIB, the BNPB Pusdalops had coordinated with BPBD officers in the affected areas.

The BNPB Pusdalops is still monitoring and coordinating with several BPBDs in the areas of Yogyakarta, Central Java, and East Java.

The BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC) in the affected areas has been in the field to collect data and monitor it.

"Residents in several areas felt strong shocks. Strong shaking was felt by residents of Bantul, Kulon Progo, and Gunung Kidul Regencies," he said.

Meanwhile, in Central Java Province, vibrations were felt by residents in Surakarta City, Kebumen Regency, and Klaten.

Earthquake shocks were also felt by residents of Trenggalek, East Java Province with moderate to strong intensity for 20 seconds.

Based on BMKG parameters, said Abdul, the M6.4 earthquake was centered 86 km southwest of Bantul, Yogyakarta, with a depth of 25 km. Judging by BMKG modeling, the epicenter of this earthquake in the sea has no potential for a tsunami.

"We urge residents to be vigilant and ready. Anticipate aftershocks," he said.
