Jokowi To Aceh Launches Heavy Non-Judicial Human Rights Settlement Program

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo left for Aceh, to launch a program to implement recommendations for the non-judicial settlement of gross human rights violations (HAM).

Through the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, Jokowi and a limited entourage took off using the Indonesia-1 Presidential plane, as quoted from a written statement from the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday, June 27.

Reported by ANTARA, upon arrival at Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport, Aceh Besar District, Aceh, Jokowi and his entourage immediately continued their journey using the Indonesian Air Force Super Puma helicopter to Pidie Regency.

In Pidie, Jokowi launched a program to implement the recommendation for the non-judicial completion of Aceh's gross human rights violations in Rumoh Geudong. Furthermore, Tuesday afternoon, Jokowi is scheduled to return to Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport to return to Jakarta.

The location for the launch of the settlement of past gross human rights violations in Aceh is the location of the tragedy of Rumoh Geudong, namely a tragedy of gross human rights violations during the 1989-1998 Aceh conflict period.

Previously, the government had acknowledged gross human rights violations in at least 12 incidents in the past. Three of the three cases came from Aceh, namely the Geudong Rumoh and Sattis Post in Pidie in 1989, the 1999 Simpang KKA North Aceh Incident, and the incident in Jambo Keupok, South Aceh in 2003.
