JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono reminded that there should no longer be offices to malls that use groundwater for their operational activities. The use of groundwater in commercial activities clearly violates the rules.

This was conveyed by Heru at the Jakarta Water Hero Award 2023 at the Jakarta International Equestrian Park, Pulomas, East Jakarta.

"I hope that large buildings, banking, malls, and others will follow what our colleagues, business people, use PAM pipe water," said Heru, Tuesday, June 20 evening.

Heru said, every citizen can contribute to the preservation of water from their respective places, for example, by reusing water and managing liquid waste wisely. "In the midst of limited water sources in Jakarta, it is important for everyone to collaborate with each other to ensure the quality of rivers in DKI Jakarta increases so that they can be used as raw water sources for PAM Jaya," said Heru.

As a form of appreciation, PAM Jaya gave awards to 100 selected piping drinking water customers in the category of average use of more than 10,000 cubic meters per month which are committed to saving and preserving water in the surrounding environment. There are 13 winners in this award, namely 3 winners of the "use of piped water" category from Western customers and 3 winners from Eastern regions, 3 winners of the "payment compliance" category from Western customers and 3 winners from Eastern regions, as well as 1 overall champion as Jakarta Water Hero 2023.

PAM JAYA President Director Arief Nasrudin said there were four assessment indicators for this award activity, namely the water rescue and conservation program initiative, integrated waste management, compliance with water bill payments, and utilization of piped water.

Arief said the four indicators were then assessed by five independent judges, namely the Director General of Regional Legal Products.

The Ministry of Home Affairs Makmur Marbun; Head of the DKI Jakarta Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) Juwarno; Environmental Impact Control of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service Torkis Tambunan; Chairman of the Supervisory Board PAM JAYA Riyadi; and Head of the Planning Section of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Service (SDA) Elisabeth Tarigan.

"The five judges then conducted an assessment of 100 selected PAM JAYA Key Account customers to determine the 1 winner," said Arief.

Through this activity, PAM Jaya, called Arief, wants to invite Jakarta residents to become heroes for the conservation of water in this city.

"We started from the category of office building participants, but in the future we can develop this initiation in other categories, such as households," said Arief.

"Those who participate in water conservation are those who fight for life, because water is a source of life," he added.
