SURABAYA - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kanwilkumham) East Java transferred as many as 40 prisoners in the high risk category (high risk) to Nusakambangan.

Head of Regional Office of the East Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Imam Jauhari, said that the transfer said that one of the considerations was the security aspect of the prison.

"Before being transferred to Nusakambangan, we have carried out an assessment," said Imam as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 20.

Imam said the prisoners who were transferred came from six large prisons in East Java, namely from Prison I Surabaya as many as six people, Prison I Malang five people and Pamekasan Narcotics Prison one person, Bojonegoro Prison ten people, Lamongan Prison and Madiun Youth Prison each. nine people.

He explained that the transfer of prisoners was an implementation of Law Number 22 of 2022 concerning Corrections. The results show that 40 inmates have high risk.

Imam explained that the convicts came from eight different background cases of terrorism, corruption, theft, fraud, robbery, child protection, murder and narcotics abuse.

"Inmates with narcotics abuse background are the most with 28 people," explained Imam.

Meanwhile, from the duration of the sentence, the lowest is the sentence of five years in prison and there are also two death row inmates and one convict for 20 years.

"On average they are included in the category of severe crime," said Imam.

The activity of escorting the transfer of high-risk prisoners was centered at the Madiun Youth Prison as a gathering point. By using a fleet of 1 bus with a capacity of 50 people.

"The goal is two prisons in Nusakambangan. Namely Batu Prison and Karanganyar Prison," he said.

During the escort process, the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of East Java alerted 15 personnel members of Battalion C Pioneer of Madiun City and assistants from the Special Correctional Police.
