Landslides In Ambon Increase By 68 Points

AMBON - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Ambon City recorded that the landslide points in the city had increased to 68 points in five sub-districts.

"To date, 68 landslides have been recorded and four flood areas are spread across five sub-districts in Ambon," said Secretary of BPBD Ambon City, Eva Tuhumury, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, June 15.

The intensity of rainfall has continued to increase in the Ambon City area since May 29, 2023, causing floods and landslides in the sub-districts of Nusaniwe, Sirimau, Ambon Bay, Ambon Bay, Baguala, and South Leitimur.

Landslides and floods affected community settlements, namely 70 houses that were threatened with landslides, 35 houses were affected by floods and 16 houses were damaged.

Meanwhile, infrastructure damage and public facilities due to floods and landslides were damage to seven-point land-retaining talud, and two-point river-retaining talud, in addition, one school was damaged and six-point footpaths.

Disaster management efforts continue to be carried out by BPBD together with related agencies, such as the Social Service, PUPR, and Satpol PP.

The local municipal government has also carried out emergency response handling, such as providing emergency response and logistical assistance to residents affected by the disaster, as well as facilitation of displaced residents.

The assistance provided was in the form of tarpaulins to cover avalanches, as well as carts and shovels to lift soil piles.

The public is advised to be aware of high rainfall in the next few days, especially people living in disaster-prone areas.

"In times of disaster, people who live on hill slopes and riverbanks can come to be aware if the rainfall is high by looking for a safe place to save themselves," he said.

BPBD appealed to residents to be aware of the potential for natural disasters when heavy rains fell for a long time and immediately reported natural disasters in the neighborhood to BPBD through village government officials.
