GUNUNGKIDUL - The Department of Agriculture and Food in Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, conducted monitoring and evaluation, including dealing with the emergence of pest attacks in the centers for the development of shallot plants in the Districts/Kenewon Wonosari and Semanu.

The Coordinator of Pest Observer of the Agriculture and Food Service of Gunungkidul Jayadi said that based on reports from pest observers in the field, the area of planting shallots attacked by two hectares of granau pests, which covers an area of one hectare in Wonosari and one hectare in Semanu.

"The supply of caterpillar control pesticides on shallots is also operational, the control movement is ready if observer officers and pest control are recommended in the field," he said.

Meanwhile, farmers in Kalurahan/Grejek Village, Kapanewon WONosari Warjiyanto, said that the attack of the gruk caterpillar was handled manually by observing every afternoon. This Ullat only came out in the afternoon and evening.

Grayak ulat has a smooth and green shape. In the afternoon, the caterpillar will come out of the shallot leaves where it is hiding.

The impact of this caterpillar attack is quite significant because the growth of shallots can not be optimal. The size can also shrink.

"What is certain is that productivity can decrease," said Warjiyanto.

This gray ulate has attacked about 10 percent of his total shallot plants. The land used is about 400 square meters.
